Right around the Second World War, a man named Marcel Bich founded his very own mechanical pencil, pen, and accessory shop in a suburb north of Paris, France. While he was in Argentina doing some research, Bich saw a ballpoint pen being manufactured. From this moment on, he devoted much of his time to designing his own version of the ballpoint pen. After many trials, Bich and his team created the perfect ink cartridge that prevented ink from both leaking and clogging the pen. Proud of his revolutionary ballpoint pen, Bich began to heavily market his product. He renamed his company to Bic, a memorable and generic trade name, and began selling his custom bic pen all over the world. About ten years later, the custom bic pen became the standard writing utensil in French classrooms.
