Austin at Local Music Festivals
As of 1991, Austin's official slogan became The Live Music Capital of the World® because of the number of live music venues in the city. With so many music venues, many artists and musicians play shows in Downtown Austin and the surrounding areas of Travis Heights and West University, but live music can be heard anywhere in Metro Austin. Surprisingly there are also some great venues worth driving to in San Marcos and Pflugerville. Austin has also become internationally known for its music festivals from South by Southwest and Urban Music Fest to Austin City Limits. South by Southwest attracts the best talent in music, film and interactive from all over the county. It is one of the highlights of the festival to get your South by Southwest Big Bag and discover all the merch inside from musicians and sponsors. The SXSW Big Bag's are filled with swag such as pens, magnets, koozies and t-shirts and are given to every registrant when they check in. These custom products received at the festival can be seen all over the conference halls and at the numerous music and film venues around the city.
Austin's Film Industry
Austin has become a featured destination for filming movies, television shows and commercials in recent years in large part because of the incentives and promotion from Austin's Film Commission. Austin has played host to hundreds of films both big budget and small independent films; some of the more famous films include Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Varsity Blues, Miss Congeniality and Dazed and Confused. Austin's mild weather and beautiful topography make it an ideal place to film with hills to the West in Hays County and agriculture to the East in Bastrop County, as well as city backdrops in Downtown Austin, Travis Heights and West University. The Austin Film Commission should use imprinted items to continue to promote the city of Austin to indie filmmakers, as well as blockbuster film producers and directors. Unique products such as clapboard shaped key chains, imprinted film reels filled with popcorn or custom director's chairs would make great promotional items for the film industry.
