One of Albuquerque's claims to fame is that it is the ballooning capital of the world. Each October over 700 hot air balloons fly high above the city at the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. Route 66 and Albuquerque

The historic Route 66 snaked through Albuquerque back in the 1920's and today is a tourist destination for those seeking Route 66 memorabilia. The original route through the city has been adjusted, but visitors can tour the current Route 66 along Central Avenue in Downtown Albuquerque and admire the vintage neon signs that line this famous stretch of road. Portions of the old Route 66 between Bernalillo and Los Lunas still boast historical markers denoting its old presence. Route 66 helped pave the growth of Albuquerque and has assisted in making it the city it is today.
