In case you’ve been living under a rock – or a large stalk of corn – and haven’t heard the news, a couple and their two small children dialed 911 on Monday evening after getting lost in a corn maze at Connors Farm outside of Boston.
While it sounds rather humorous, this is no laughing matter. In fact, it’s easy to understand feeling scared and frustrated in the maze, which contains many twists, turns and dead-ends, especially after night fall. The question, at least in my mind, is if they could have done anything to prevent the call to 911 – thus sparing themselves both a call to emergency personnel and public humiliation.
As those interviewed by the Associated Press (shown above) suggested, it’s a good idea to listen for the sound of traffic or follow the tree line to find your way to an exit.
Another way to avoid getting lost in a corn maze is to carry a flashlight. Small, pocket-sized promotional flashlights or those that attach to a key ring are great tools because you just never know when they will come in handy. Here’s an idea: maybe Connors Farm should consider distributing promotional flashlights imprinted with their name and logo to all who enter the maze!
