Help Choose the 2011 Peachtree Road Race Custom T-Shirt Design!

Atlanta’s biggest Fourth of July tradition will be back and bigger than ever in 2011: The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Peachtree Road Race 10k has expanded its field to include 60,000 participants, all of whom are invited to vote for this year’s custom t-shirt design.

Each year, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution solicits designs for the official custom t-shirt of the Peachtree Road Race, from which five finalists are chosen. Votes from race participants and supporters determine which design will be featured on the shirts that runners and walkers receive in the bag of goodies that awaits them just across the finish line in Piedmont Park.

The official race t-shirt is offered exclusively to the participants who complete the  10k (6.2 mile) course through the Buckhead neighborhood and Midtown Atlanta, and is the sole motivation for many individuals’ entrance into the registration lottery.

Here’s a look at last year’s designs – the winner is featured second from right, which you probably already know from seeing it around town if you live, work or play in the greater Atlanta area:

A 10k race is never easy, especially in the middle of summer in Georgia, so you’ll see these custom t-shirts worn proudly by recipients all year round. The shirts and the race’s reputation as an Atlanta institution do most of the advertising for the annual event while requiring little effort from the dedicated team behind the Peachtree Road Race, making them an excellent investment and an example of promotional marketing done right.

I, for one, will be toeing the starting line at the crack of dawn on the Fourth of July – and you can bet you’ll see me wearing my custom t-shirt soon after I cross the finish line!
