Hello, local readers. Once again we’re here with your weekend guide, where we share our favorite things to do in and around Atlanta and point out where you can get free stuff along the way. As always, be sure to add anything we missed in the comments.


2011 Atlanta Sportacular Show

North Atlanta Trade Center. Friday, 3pm – 9pm; Saturday, 10am – 6pm; Sunday, 10am – 5pm. Adults $6 day/$15 weekend pass; kids $3 day/$7.50 weekend pass; 6 & under free.

Meet some of America’s favorite professional athletes and beef up your autograph collection while you’re at it this weekend at the 2011 Atlanta Sportacular Show at the North Atlanta Trade Center. Atlanta Braves Julio Teheran, Randall Delgado, John Smoltz & Jason Heyward will be there on Saturday and Sunday along with current and former Falcons players Matt Ryan, Jason Snelling, and Michael Vick, among others. Get out your favorite jerseys and promotional sports products!

Fox Theater Ballroom Nights

Egyptian Ballroom at the Fox Theater. Monday, 8pm. $30/person.

If you haven’t made plans for Valentine’s Day yet or you’re looking for something extra to tack onto the evening, then dance the night away in the Egyptian Ballroom at the Fox Theater. Complimentary dance lessons will begin at 8pm along with a special exhibition by the UGA Ballroom Performance Group. Joe Gransden and his 17-piece “big band” will be serenading guests. Enjoy a romantic evening with all the bells and whistles: dinner, champagne, dancing, and desserts!

OysterFest

Park Tavern. Saturday, doors open at 12pm. $25+ (prices increase as date gets closer).

The legendary event known as Oysterfest returns this year with live music from local bands, DJs, cold beer and other beverages, and of course tons of fresh, fried, and steamed oysters with cocktail sauce and crackers (featuring Blue Point Oysters from Conneticut & Malpeque Oysters from Prince Edward Island on the Raw Oyster Bar). It all goes down at the Park Tavern at Atlanta’s beautiful Piedmont Park.

The Bert Show’s Bitter Ball

Gold Room. Saturday, 9pm – 2am. $20 in advance. 21+ only.

Flying solo this Valentine’s Day? Mingle with other single Atlantans at The Bert Show’s annual Bitter Ball. The Gold Room is one of Atlanta’s hottest nightclubs, and this event is sure to draw a crowd, so buy your ticket in advance. Be on the lookout for promotional giveaways from sponsors like Bacardi, Coors Light, and All The Hits Q100.

Queen of Hearts Social

Pacci Ristorante. Thursday, 6pm – 9pm. Free.

Want to know what your romantic future holds in store? Join Atlanta-based author and advice columnist Blane Bachelor as he answers relationship questions at Pacci tonight. Attendees at this second annual event will also receive complimentary appetizers, drink specials, and a chance to win big at the Queen of Hearts raffle. Be sure to dress for the occasion by wearing red if you love Valentine’s day and black if you’re more of a holiday cynic.

Monster Jam®

Georgia Dome. Saturday, 7:30pm. $15+.

The world’s premier monster truck series, Advanced Auto Parts Monster Jam®, performs to more than 4 million fans every year – and this Saturday night is Atlanta’s turn to enjoy the show. The event begins at 7:30 but get there early for the Party in the Pits, where you’ll have the opportunity to meet some of the world’s top monster truck drivers and get an up close & personal view of the trucks.
