Weekend Guide: Atlanta Bar-B-Q Festival, Atlanta Greek Festival, and more

Atlanta Bar-B-Q Festival

Atlantic Station. Friday, 4 p.m. – 10 p.m. Saturday, noon – 8 p.m. $6 in advance, $10 at the door. Free for children 12 and under.

If you love authentic bar-b-q, the 3rd Annual Atlanta Bar-B-Q Festival is the place to be this weekend! Come to the event hungry because over 40 professional and amateur teams are competing to win the titles of people’s choice, best backyard and best pro team in Atlanta. Take in the live local music selections as you “pig-out” on bar-b-q, beer and cool confections from the King of Pops. Kids will have a blast hanging out in the activity center at the festival too!

Atlanta Greek Festival

Greek Orthodox Cathedral. Thursday, 11 a.m. – 10 p.m., Friday & Saturday, 11 a.m. – 11 p.m. Sunday, 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. $4 online, $5 at the door. Free for children under 12.

An annual Atlanta tradition for 37 years, the Atlanta Greek Festival returns with food and fun for the whole family. Enjoy delicious Greek cuisine, live musical and dance performances, shopping and lectures on Greek Orthodoxy. You’ll be shouting “OPA!” in no time.

Battle of the Burgers

John Howell Park. Saturday, 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. $25

Join in the fun as 25 local restaurants come together for a day filled with burgers, beer, and a battle to be the best! Make sure to sample all of the burgers before submitting your vote for the People’s Choice award. Proceeds from the event, as well as the Burger-Eating 5K Run at 9 a.m., benefit Embraced, an Atlanta-based organization dedicated to providing access to orthopedic medical equipment.

Howl-O-Weenie Dachshund Festival

Brook Run Park. Saturday, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Free.

Think you own one hot dog? Find out at the Howl-O-Weenie Dachshund Festival by entering him or her in the costume contest, tail-wagging contest, races, and more. Meanwhile, those without pooches can enjoy the artist/vendor market, raffles, and live bluegrass music. Proceeds benefit DREAM Dachshund Rescue.

Adult Field Day

Buckhead Saloon Parking Lot. Sunday, 1 p.m. $80 donation to Bert’s Big Adventure per 4 person team (21+ only).

This (slightly) more mature version of elementary school field day is a perfect excuse to party for a good cause- proceeds benefit Bert’s Big Adventure to help kids with chronic and/or terminal illnesses. Events include Dizzy Bat Beer Relay, 5-Legged Race, Beer Limbo, Obstacle Course, Beer Pong, and more. Also, did we mention giveaways, free hot dogs and hamburgers, $1 beers, and Sinless Margarita specials?

Vinings Jubilee 25th Anniversary Party

Vinings Jubilee. Saturday, 6 p.m. Free. 

Head to the Vinings Jubilee shopping center this Saturday for music, food and drinks, and fun. At 6PM, the celebration begins with a jazz performance; popular band Yacht Rock Schooner takes the stage at 7:30PM. Tickets will be available to purchase food and beverages from your favorite Vinings Jubilee restaurants, who will be set up in tents around the complex. Don’t forget to wear your dancing shoes!
