Weekend Guide: Trucktoberfest, Candler Park Fall Fest, and more

Trucktoberfest

Red Brick Brewery. Saturday, noon – 8 p.m. $50.

Enjoy all that autumn in Atlanta has to offer at Trucktoberfest! For the price of admission, you get to sample brews, tastes and tunes! Tamale Queen, The Pup Truck, Just Loaf’n and Cocktail Cupcakes are just a few of the food trucks in attendance. Visitors to the event will also receive a tour of the Red Brick Brewery. And as a bonus, the Atlanta Cornhole League will be hosting a Cornhole tournament!

Candler Park Fall Fest

Candler Park. Saturday, noon – 9 p.m. Sunday, noon – 8 p.m. Free.

This year’s annual Candler Park Fall Fest will feature live music from local bands, delicious food from the community’s favorite vendors, an artists market, a 5K road race that will take runners throughout the historic Candler Park neighborhood, and a Tour of Homes. Don’t miss your chance to enjoy one of the last festivals of the season!

AIDS Walk Atlanta & 5K Run

Piedmont Park. Sunday, 11:30 a.m. check in time. $25 for runners, $10 for walkers, fund-raising encouraged.

Join community members in the fight against HIV and AIDS at the largest fund-raising event for AIDS in the southeast. An opening ceremony will precede the run and walk, which will be followed by a post-run concert at 2:30 p.m. Proceeds benefits AID Atlanta and 9 other participating agencies that provide treatment, medications, prevention education, meals, mental health services and more to the thousands of families affected by HIV/AIDS in the Atlanta area.

Birds of Atlanta Tour

Fernbank Science Center. Saturday, 8 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Free.

Would you like to know what types of birds live in you own backyard? If so, join the Atlanta Audubon Society for a morning of bird watching. Bring your binoculars to the Fernbank Forest and view the finest feathered creatures in the Metro area. Instructors will provide a checklist to use on this journey through this sublime, old growth forest. Mingle with bird lovers and learn a thing or two about these fascinating creatures.

Brookhaven Arts Festival

Behind the Brookhaven MARTA Station. Saturday, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Sunday, noon – 6 p.m. Free.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re coming for the arts, the music, the food, or the neighborhood – this event has it all! Highlights include works by both new and established artists, as well as live music performances by Anna Marie Perry Band, Gwen Hughes, and more. If you can’t make it to the Festival, be sure to check out the The Brookhaven Gallery in Town Brookhaven.

Barktoberfest

SweetWater Brewery. Saturday, 7 p.m. – 10 p.m. $30 in advance, $40 at the door.

Party for a great cause this weekend by attending Barktoberfest- proceeds benefit Angels Among Us Pet Rescue, which is a non-profit volunteer-based organization committed to rescuing dogs and cats from high-kill shelters in North Georgia. Not only will your participation support the mission of Angels Among Us, but you will gain access to beer tastings, brewery tours, a souvenir Sweetwater glass, food supplied by California Pizza Kitchen, raffles, live music, and prizes.

Avondale Arts Alliance’s 2011 Autumn Fest

Across from City Hall in Avondale Estates. Saturday, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m (music until 8:30 p.m.); Sunday, Noon – 5 p.m. Free.

From food and drink vendors to a mobile “reptile zoo” and live music performances by The Buggs, a local Beatles tribute band, the 9th annual Autumnfest is jam-packed with options. An artist market offers pieces by artists from across the Southeast, and several bands will take the stage throughout the weekend. Sponsors include Kudzu Antiques, Brick Store, The Little Wine Shop, Savage Pizza, and Avondale Swim & Tennis Club, among others.
