Promotional Items for National Blood Pressure Awareness Month
Wednesday, May 1st, 2013
Since 1984, May has been proclaimed as National Blood Pressure Awareness Month in the United States in an effort to raise public awareness about blood pressure and the serious effects it can have on one’s health. Blood pressure is the pressure exerted on the walls of blood vessels by circulating blood throughout the body. During each heart beat, blood pressure varies between a maximum systolic pressure, whereby the circulating blood is moving away from the heart through the arteries, and a minimum diastolic pressure, whereby the heart is filling back up with blood. A person’s blood pressure is generally expressed in terms of both the systolic and diastolic pressures, resulting in a BP such as 115/75.
High or low blood pressure can be an indicator of other problems and can have significant long-term effects. More than 1 out of every 10 Americans has high blood pressure, many of which do not even know it. There are often no symptoms present until it is too late, resulting in a stroke, heart attack or even heart failure as high pressure makes the heart muscle thicken, enlarge, and then become weak over time. Controlling one’s weight, exercising often, and limiting sodium intake are all ways by which one can manage their blood pressure and maintain an overall healthy lifestyle.
Emphasize the importance of maintaining a healthy blood pressure this month with the use of promotional products. You can give clients and employees a heart-shaped or blood drop stress reliever to remind them to get their blood pressure checked. You can even give away promotional fitness accessories to encourage maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
