Washington Wizards Debut New Logo Apparel

Welcome to this week’s edition of “Trending Topic Tuesday,” where we share our take on what’s going on in the world and what promotional products would appropriately (or inappropriately) market the subject matter.

The Washington Wizards, a professional basketball team based in Washington, D.C., held a press conference this morning to unveil a new franchise logo as well as new home and away jerseys that pay homage to the team’s history.

The new logo apparel is an updated take on the old Washington Bullets uniform. The Bullets became the Wizards in 1997.

The Wizards’ new home jersey, pictured at left, is primarily white, while the new away jersey is primarily red. Both jerseys feature a red, white & blue color scheme that matches the uniforms worn by the other D.C.-based teams that also play at the capital city’s Verizon Center: the Mystics (WNBA) and the Captials (NHL). The team’s logo apparel has featured a number of color schemes over the years, from navy and orange to black and bronze; however, the Wizards’ only NBA championship was secured 33 years ago when they wore red, white & blue as the Washington Bullets. The new jerseys are quite similar in color and in style to the ones worn by that winning team, albeit with a few modern influences: ‘washington’ on the away jersey and ‘wizards’ on the home jersey are both spelled with lowercase letters, and the design of each is crisp, clean and contemporary.

Osama Death Inspires Pop Culture Promotional Items

Welcome to this week’s edition of “Trending Topic Tuesday,” where we share our take on what’s going on in the world and what promotional products would appropriately (or inappropriately) market the subject matter.

Osama Tee ShirtBy now everyone across the world should have heard the news of the death of Osama bin Laden, founder and leader of the militant group Al Qaeda and man who claimed responsibility for the series of September 11 attacks on the United States. Osama’s death comes as an American victory in the War on Terror – and it also comes as an opportunity for marketers to profit from this occurrence through the production of so-called patriotic promotional items.

Within hours of President Obama’s address announcing the confirmed death of bin Laden on the evening of May 1, “a wide swath of marketers already had latched onto the leader’s sudden demise at the hands of U.S. special forces,” reported USA Today in an article published online yesterday specifying thousands of promotional items that had popped up on popular merchandise sites Zazzle.com and CafePress.com.

Is Donald Trump Trading in Real Estate Promotional Products for the Campaign Trail?

Welcome to this week’s edition of “Trending Topic Tuesday,” where we share our take on what’s going on in the world and what promotional products would appropriately (or inappropriately) market the subject matter.

Between saying that he’ll run for president and likening LaGuardia Airport to a “Third World country,” Donald Trump has certainly made headlines recently. It all started when the real estate mogul criticized the potential Republican presidential candidates, even going so far as to compare his net worth to that of Mitt Romney and implying that while Romney functions more as a “small businessman,” Trump’s financial resources give him the knowledge, resources and power to make changes that he sees necessary.

If Trump does go ahead and trade in his real estate promotional products for those more fitting on the campaign trail, the first change he makes may be at LaGuardia Airport. On Sunday, he compared New York’s central airport to that of a less developed nation, angering many New York officials (who probably hope he sticks to real estate promotional products). However, Trump’s still got a fan in Gary Busey – who says he’ll definitely back a presidential campaign- despite the fact that Trump fired him from “Celebrity Apprentice” earlier this week. What do you think? Do you back Trump 2012?

Amazon Brands Kindle 3 with More than Just Promotional Media Storage Cases

Welcome to this week’s edition of “Trending Topic Tuesday,” where we share our take on what’s going on in the world and what promotional products would appropriately (or inappropriately) market the subject matter.

While you may have seen – or perhaps even own – promotional media storage cases for the Amazon Kindle that have been imprinted with a brand’s custom design, logo, or message, a recent announcement from Amazon proves that protective cases are not the only way brands can make an impression on Kindle owners. Amazon will soon offer a less expensive of the Wi-Fi only Kindle 3 with built-in advertisements.

At $114, buyers will save $25 off the current Wi-Fi only model, but will be faced with sponsored screensavers from retailers including Olay, Buick, and Visa when the device is idle, and will encounter occasional special offers nestled among the pages of their e-books. Purchasers are encouraged to vote on which “attractive” advertisements they want to see included on the new version of the Kindle 3, giving them nearly the same amount of agency they have when choosing from the array of promotional media storage cases available in stores and online, as well as in the form of giveaways and corporate incentives.

Remember Cobain With Promotional MP3 Players

Welcome to this week’s edition of “Trending Topic Tuesday,” where we share our take on what’s going on in the world and what promotional products would appropriately (or inappropriately) market the subject matter.

Today alternative rock music fans, and seemingly the Internet as a whole, are paying homage to musician Kurt Cobain, on this 17th anniversary of his death. Best known as the lead singer and guitarist for the 90s grunge band Nirvana (which has sold over 50 million albums worldwide), Cobain also came to be hailed as a cultural icon, not only impacting the style of popular rock music at the time, but an entire generation of youth who sought solace in his music and lyrics amidst a time of so-called “teenage angst” fueled by the dissolution of family, heightened violence, drug abuse and diminished opportunity. You can remember Cobain today by listening to some classic Nirvana on your promotional MP3 players. I recommend the band’s hit, “Come As You Are,” from their 1992 album, Nevermind.

Apple sues Amazon, AT & T and T-Mobile Merge, and other Promotional Electronics News

Welcome to this week’s edition of “Trending Topic Tuesday,” where we share our take on what’s going on in the world and what promotional products would appropriately (or inappropriately) market the subject matter.

Amazon.com’s new mobile app business is scheduled to launch today, but the fact that it’s not open doesn’t mean it hasn’t been attracting media attention. On Friday, Apple filed a lawsuit claiming that Amazon’s use of the “Appstore” name violates Apple’s “app store” trademark. Representatives from Amazon have not commented specifically on the lawsuit, but have been stressing the differences between their technology and Apple’s.

Although both build applications for promotional electronics, Apple focuses on the iPhone and iPad while Amazon provides apps for Android phones and tablets. Furthermore, using their vast e-commerce experience, Amazon’s Appstore will be able to recommend apps based on users’ past purchases. For example, if I bought a Chicago Bears jersey on Amazon, the platform may suggest that I purchase an app to provide me with NFL stats and scores.

As consumers await Amazon’s Appstore launch and the pending lawsuit, they are turning their attention to other news from the promotional electronics industry: the alleged AT & T Inc. and T-Mobile USA merger.

Beware the Ides of March (and Rebecca Black) with Promotional Calendars

Welcome to this week’s edition of “Trending Topic Tuesday,” where we share our take on what’s going on in the world and what promotional products would appropriately (or inappropriately) market the subject matter.

The Ides of March are upon us, which means impending doom (if it’s 44 B.C. and you’re Julius Caesar, anyway). Some people are still superstitious about March 15, though, and if you’re caught off guard when the date sneaks up on you, it can be extra harrowing. Thankfully, though, if you’ve got some promotional calendars in plain view at your home or office, you won’t be unprepared for such discomfort.

In addition to dates surrounded by superstition such as the Ides of March and Friday the 13th, promotional calendars can help keep you up-to-date (pun maybe intended) on things like, say, Friday – which, as the new viral music video from Rebecca Black tells us, comes after Thursday and before Saturday. Who knew?

Whether you’re a fan of the so-called sensation that is “Friday” or you actually appreciate music, you can’t disagree with the lyrics, especially when you refer to your promotional calendars: “Yesterday was Thursday/today is Friday./We’re so excited … . We gonna have a ball today./Tomorrow is Saturday and Sunday comes afterwards/I don’t want this weekend to end.”

On International Women’s Day Show Support with Promotional Items.

Welcome to this week’s edition of “Trending Topic Tuesday,” where we share our take on what’s going on in the world and what promotional products would appropriately (or inappropriately) market the subject matter.

Today March 8th, marks the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day. On this day we recognize the incredible women through out history who have made an everlasting impact on the status of women. However, this day is also about continuing progress and identifying that there is still room to improve.

In this generation, women still make 77 cents for every dollar a man makes, and less than 3 percent of Fortune 500 CEO’s are women. These facts among many others indicate that our world still has the task of perfecting equality.

On this day, and going forth, women’s rights groups such as NOW can show support for the hopeful progress of women through promotional items such as message pens, custom apparel, and various promotional efforts. Or if you want something a little nicer, be sure to consider backpacks. Shop Pinnacle’s collection of Best Backpacks for Women for our favorites. Through promotional items as well as the many other outlets available, the women of today can spread their message in hopes of building a better place for the women of tomorrow.

Last Thursday, a palace source confirmed to the press that invitations to the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton had been postmarked. A stiff white card measuring about 8 inches x 6 inches, with gold lettering and gilded edges is en route to arrive via snail mail to 1,900 of the world’s most elite, well-connected individuals. Attendees of the much-awaited royal wedding will include kings, charity leaders, close family and friends, and politicians the world over. A select few of the guests, 600 of the total 1,900 invitees, will also be invited by Queen Elizabeth to a reception following the ceremony in the Abbey.
